For over a decade, Milton-based GEO Morphix has combined technical expertise, innovation, and a deep understanding of natural systems to deliver science-based environmental consulting services across Ontario. We recently caught up with founders Paul and Theresa Villard to learn more about their business journey, the company’s growth, and what comes next.
Can you describe GEO Morphix and what you do in a way that someone outside your industry would understand?
GEO Morphix is an environmental consulting firm. Our team is made up of scientists and support staff with diverse backgrounds, including environmental professionals, professional geoscientists, landscape architects, and certified inspectors of sediment and erosion control.
We work in rivers and around coastlines across Ontario and beyond. We collect data to understand the condition of rivers and shorelines, design channels and shoreline protection, and use models to assess watershed hydrology and predict change on the landscape. As a team, we are dedicated to doing good science to inform design and project implementation for the benefit of the environment and our clients.
What led you to start Geo Morphix? What has your journey been like, and why did you build the company in Milton?
Fourteen years ago, we had the idea to start our own company to focus specifically on geomorphology within the broader environmental science industry. We wanted to build a team of like-minded, dedicated and passionate individuals who collaborate, challenge and help push the industry forward.
Not only is our GEO Morphix team caring and dedicated to our clients, community, and natural environment- they are interesting and funny! We work hard, but we can laugh hard too.
With the freedom to work from anywhere, we decided to start the company in the spot we called home, Milton, Ontario. As our company grew and space requirements changed, we moved between several office locations throughout Milton. We made friends in the community by becoming regulars at the local restaurants and coffee shops in every spot.
Our permanent head office location is in Campbellville, where we are minutes away from hiking trails and natural areas that inspire the work we do!
How is Geo Morphix using innovation and new technology to better serve your clients?
What’s next for the company, and what opportunities are you most excited about?
Even though we are growing, our headquarters and early dreams remain in Milton.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve received, and how has it influenced your journey as business owners?
